About us
With a history dating back to 1959, the student experience at Colchester Institute combines the demands and rigour of undergraduate education, with the support and friendliness of a community college; a key benefit of studying at the College is the level of close tutorial support that students receive. Colchester is a great town in which to live and study, offering a unique blend of ancient and modern. It also boasts excellent transport links with trains to London taking less than one hour.
The college offers a range of study programmes from BTEC national diplomas, undergraduate honours degrees, and postgraduate certificates, diplomas and masters degrees. The programmes are up-to-date, challenging and represent best practice in each of the subject areas. The College focuses on career-related education and training which accompanies the development of a more skilled workforce.
Most of the higher education programmes are based at the Sheepen Road, Colchester Campus. Subject areas include art and design, video production, photography, business management, sport management, hospitality management, computing, construction management, engineering, counselling, music, popular music, musical theatre, creative performance (acting), technical theatre, education, early years and health and care.
The curriculum is developed in partnership with employers locally, nationally and internationally to ensure that the courses match today’s standards and the needs of tomorrow. Colchester Institute offers extensive facilities including student services, learning support, an on-site nursery, three refectories, two training restaurants and much more. Our open access IT suites consist of almost 1,000 workstations with internet access for student use.
